Offering views of the Little River and four different waterfalls, Middle Prong Trail is the classic Smoky Mountains stream hike. This moderately difficult scenic loop trail--which winds under the lush canopy of trees close to the riverbank--is 13 km (8.3 mi) long, with 347 m (1,140 ft) elevation gain. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the explosion of flowers in the spring or colorful autumn foliage and, of course, the various cascades. If you wish to dip your feet in the water or fish, there are number of spots along the way where the river can be safely accessed.
