Pier / Boardwalk · State Park
Gulf State Park Fishing Pier attracts avid anglers, as well as tourists interested in seeing marine life. Opened in 2009 to replace the original pier destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the newly rebuilt pier features indoor seating and a retail shop for stocking up on bait and tackle. At 470 m (1,540 ft) long, the pier is the largest on the Gulf of Mexico, offering you more space to fish and look for sea life down below. Watch sharks, stingrays, and jellyfish swimming underneath you and keep an eye out for pelicans and cranes flying nearby. • Lots of fun. Reasonable parking fee. Nice beach. Clean. Lots to see when snorkeling…kids saw rays, crabs, fish and even a small shark.  more »
  • We stayed at The Lodge and add access to the pier. Great little walk over to the pier, we saw dolphins and fish under the pier.  more »

  • The Pier is open even though a section is missing from Sally that prevents you from going out to the far end. Great place for fishing and also enjoying the beach. The large parking lot was pretty full but I had no problem finding a spot to park. I always enjoy walking a few miles at the waters edge and getting some sun. The water is still on the cool side and the sand is easy and cool also so no need for my crocs getting on the beach right now. There's two places to shower and or wash the sand off your body or just your feet. This beach area gives you plenty of space to spread out and is never as crowded as it is in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. The pier has restrooms plus a place to order food and drink.
  • We walked the beach from our condo, about a mile and for only $2 each we saw more marine life in an hour than we saw in 4 days on our whole trip. Got to see a Blue Heron upclose...like he stood about 2 feet from us, dolphins playing and chasing bait fish, several sea turtles, rays and a shark! We even skipped going on a dolphin cruise because our dolphin experience on the pier was so great! The pier itself is beautiful. Highly recommend going if you're looking for a place to watch marine life and just sit and enjoy the waves.
