The Crystal Mill, or the Old Mill is an 1892 wooden powerhouse located on an outcrop above the Crystal River in Crystal, Colorado, United States. It is accessible from Marble, Colorado via 4x4. Although called a Watermill, it is more correctly denoted as a compressor station, which used a water turbine to drive an air compressor, and was originally built with a horizontal wheel. The compressed air was then used to power other machinery or tools.

    We Hiked to Crystal Mill by way of The Lead King Basin. It was a 15 mile hike that was Absolutely Stunning. We Always wanted to go out in the Fall and the Colors did not Disappoint. The first 5 Miles....  more »

    I would have hated hiking this and would not recommend it being worth it if that is your only option. I had an AWD GMC Terrain SUV and it did just fine on the road but I’m from Montana and used to...  more »

    It's a beautiful place but really hard to get there. The trail is all rock with ups and down. I used my bicycle but I barely rode it. There is no full access to the mill because is private property. By the way is a worthy hike with full exercise. Took 4 hours and half round trip.

    One of the most photographed places in Colorado, if it was easier to get to, it's be overrun. Spend the $10 for access to get better photos, the money is well spent and goes to maintain the site. The cabins in the town are a mix of privately owned and for rent cabins. The mill isn't the only thing to see, the ridges and cliffs around the valley are dramatic and stunning, covered with aspen, they're a sight in the fall.
