The museum has taken a city landmark and turned it into the cornerstone of an entire cultural district. The facility was built in 1936 prior to World War II, as a military armory for Company E, 167th Infantry Division. Built under the Works Progress Act (WPA), the building was constructed of local rough limestone. With its distinctive castellated (castle-like) architecture, the Museum sits on a tree-covered hilltop adjacent to Guntersville’s highly rated city Library and overlooking the acclaimed Whole Backstage Community Theatre. Very interesting little museum! This quaint little museum is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in history. The kids with us got to do a neat little scavenger hunt while we looked through. This place is enjoyable for the young and old! Our favorite part was the collection of rocks and minerals! We could have spent hours in that section alone.

The museum was extremely nice and informative. Didn't know that Guntersville had that much history behind it or other cities in Alabama. The curator was nice as well.
