Waimea Bay, Haleiwa

4.7
#2 of 16 in Parks in Haleiwa
Featuring large waves and surfing competitions, Waimea Bay hugs a powdery beach bordered by tropical greenery. Depending on the weather, the ocean can be completely calm, or you can encounter 15 m (50 ft) waves. Visit the beach to lounge in the sun or have a picnic, or walk through the nearby gardens and look at the waterfalls. When the water is calm, you can also swim and snorkel. Beware of the local tradition of rock-jumping--although many visitors do it, the local authorities strictly advise against it. Parking space at the site is very limited. • Waimea beach has such beauty and a very important participation in the history of Oahu. The Eddie Aikau Challenge is celebrated there every year. Amazing invitational.  more »

  • Great sand and beach, almost like quick sand when the tide rolls out. There’s a medium height rock cliff you can jump off into the water to the left of the ocean. Unfortunately, the fisherman take up the calm side of the beach so the kiddos are left with the rougher water side. There a life guard on duty, picnic beaches but not a lot of shade so come prepared. Parking is limited so come early.
  • Love this beach. Arrive early so you can get a parking spot, otherwise there is more parking at the church or across the street but a much farther walk obviously. Great location and beach is amazing. People can jump off rocks, snorkel or just float around on a calm day. FYI summer time is usually pretty calm but keep your eyes open for any warning signs and always listen to the lifeguards.
