  • The area is so surrounded in the history of Mark Twain and his stories. The garden near the statue is quite pretty.  more »

  • The Tom Sawyer and Huckfinn Statue is a nice tribute to the birthplace of Mark Twain's signature friendship tales about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. It is also a welcome sign to strangers visiting Hannibal, Missouri for the first time. These two children point the way to town with their eyes and the past which visitors like me, from far and wide, come to partake in. This marker not only commemorates the heroes of two "fictional" and historical novels; it also cements the true friendship that inpired Mark Twain's hands to give life to his youthful memories and childhood reminisces of an amazing friendship . Not far away is Mark Twain's actual boyhood home and Huckleberry Finn's own smaller home that saw their friendship take wings. It's as if these two boys in the statue are heading to their home after a day of fishing a few feet away. It reminds me of the closing line of 1986's Stand by Me, "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?" That's what the statue represents to me; a symbol that captures our youth, innocence, and unforgettable friendships which are difficult to replicate in adulthood. That's the essence of Mark Twain's Tom and Huck statue.
  • The whole town is great!! My husband and I went on a day date and had a blast! Light house was so neat but stairs is a work out. Cute shops good food great drinks.
