Grasp the spirit of the age, and learn the whole story of one of the most momentous events in American history at National Civil War Museum. The museum displays are created from an impartial viewpoint to help you understand the causes, course, and consequences of the war. You can see how slavery influenced the economy and society, as well as how the war affected the everyday lives of both soldiers and civilians. The artifact collection includes personal belongings of many of the era's major figures, like Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, and Stonewall Jackson. In addition to artifacts, you can view video displays and listen to music recordings. The tours are self-guided, and the whole museum building is wheelchair-accessible. What a beautiful and heart wrenching place to learn about our Civil War. The staffnis incredibly helpful and kind. The exhibits are remarkable, and the presentation is thoughtfully laid out. The first room we entered brought tears to my eyes, seeing the history pf our country laid out so honestly. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. Worth every minute, and every dollar.

We have been to quite a few civil war museums, but this one by far was the best. It has a very neutral feel, just presenting the facts leading up to and during the war. There is recognition of a variety of individuals that were in the war, videos along the way, and of course lots of pieces used at the time. Be sure to check out the medal of honor room. Only one woman has ever received this honor and it was taken away from her and given back after her death
