Hōlei Sea Arch is a 90-foot (27-meter)-high natural arch located in Hawaii, on the southern coast of the Big Island, south of Kīlauea. This rock formation was born from marine erosion, in which the waves of the Pacific Ocean create this natural bridge of lava cliffs. The arch is made of basalt. It takes its name from the Hōlei Pali, the escarpment located up on the slopes of the volcano.Using our world travel planner, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park attractions like Holei Sea Arch can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
Located in the Ka'ū District of Hawaii County and in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, it is at the end of the Chain of Craters Road, cut short by the lava flows emitted by Puu Oo Crater since 1990. It thus constitutes a tourist attraction of the national park.

A must visit place in Big Island, Hawai. Unique sea arch formed by the lava flow. In fact the whole sea shore is created as if of lava! The road feels like you are driving between the lava flow !

This was the first place we headed when getting to the park. The drive is lovely with fantastic views and lots of stops, however we did the stops on the way back. The sea arch iteself is impressive, especially when you get the waves crashing around it. Beautiful coast line. There is also a nice walk across the lava flows.

Located at the lost stop, #9, at the end of the Chains of Crater Road Driving Tour on the NPS app. There's only parallel parking on the side of the road. The arch is temporary and will eventually fall into the ocean. There are three public washrooms adjacent the closed off road. You will need to walk approximately a 1000 feet to the observation area past the gate to admire the beauty of the arches.
