RE-OPENED SUMMER 2017 - UNDER NEW MANAGMENTPlan to visit Charlemagne's Kingdom and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Helen attractions using our Helen online itinerary planner .
Charlemagne's Kingdom, an Alpine Model Railroad Museum in the Georgia Mountains, features HO Scale German Model Railroads, in a 50 foot exhitbit that depicts the various terrain and architecture of Germany. As an example of Alpine art it is a unique combination of imagination and craftsmanship, the product of the original owners of Willi and Judi Lindhorst. Charlemagne refers principally to the German lands which were ruled by the Frankish King in the 700s. This exhibit is really a marvelous Alpine Model Railroad depicting a modern Germany from "The North sea to the Alps." It is truly a work of art and is the result of Willi's love of his homeland, its people, trains, architecture, industry, customs and culture. (Not only that, but Willi can trace himself as a lineal descendant of Charlemagne!)
Charlemagne's Kingdom Reviews
What a cool thing to see! Wonderful diorama with HO trains. Haven’t seen one of these in such a long time. You have to admire the work and be in awe of the time it took to build it, not to mention mai... more »
This train garden is charming and has such creative detail. That we could watch it from above via a second floor walkway was great. We were given a scavenger hunt of items to find/observe along the wa... more »
Super cute. And SO MUCH DETAIL. When we went I think there was only 1 train working? But honestly it didn't even matter. There's just SO much to look at. Definitely worth the cost of entry. I'm pretty sure we spent a good 2-3 hrs in there, and there were loads of little fun things hidden around that kept the toddler completely occupied.
We had a great time here with our 4 kids. Ask for the scavenger hunt. The museum has a gift shop with Melissa and Doug train sets and some rock themed gifts. The model train room has two levels where we could see the mountain town from above and below. There were three trains running and the kids love following them around the room. We stayed for over an hour. Had to bribe the kids out of there. So many little things to see. The setup has some wear and tear but overall well maintained. Bathroom is off the gift shop. And can buy drinks there too. If you like this review tap the thumbs up.
