Take tours of marshlands, beaches, and waterways, and learn about the natural history of the area at Coastal Discovery Museum. Wander through trails and gardens with tall oaks, a carnivorous plant exhibit, and a butterfly enclosure. Take one of the many tours, such as the lowland critter encounter, where you can hold a live alligator and pet snakes and turtles. We had such a great day at the coastal discovery museum. The grounds are beautiful. There are so many things to see and learn about. We had an excellent tour guide who explained about Myrtle the turtle and horseshoe crabs. We spent about 2 hours in total there but easily could’ve taken longer! A great learning environment for kids and adults.

My wife and I have visited the Coastal Discovery Museum a few times, the latest which included a tour by the museum's director, Rex Garniewicz. The tour is called the Director's Walk. And that's exactly what it is, a walk around the museum with the director chatting about the various things to see and learn about. I liked the feel of the tour. A tour with Rex is like walking the grounds and conversing with a knowledgeable friend. At the start of the walk he asked about our interests and tailored our tour accordingly. We heard a lot about the history of the grounds as well as learning about the area's ecology. We will take other tours at the Coastal Discovery Museum in the future, but I'm glad this was our first. It was an excellent experience!
