Alaska is known for its natural phenomena, and Homer Spit is among the most remarkable. No one is certain how this Kachemak Bay landmark came into existence. A strong earthquake in 1964 significantly reduced its size and killed most of its lush vegetation. But that didn't stop the spot from turning into a popular tourist destination lined with shops and restaurants. Choose from a range of activities such as boat trips, camping, fishing, kayaking, and walks down the long beach. You can access the spit by a car, but parking lots might be crowded. Make Homer Spit a part of your Homer vacation plans using our Homer day trip planning website.

We spent 4 days here, it was fantastic really. My husband rented a pole for $20 and spent the day fishing at the fishing hole. Caught 2 Salmon! We shopped the boardwalk and took a boat ride to Seldovia (Highly Recommended) . My husband took a Charter boat out one day and caught Halibut/rock fish/Cod. Very fun 4 days. Do not stay at the Heritage RV park unless you want to look at the backside of campers or miraculously caught the one day a beach site opened up. You can ask every day for an opening and they will say none available and then book someone else in those spots. Stay at the end at the Homer Spit Campground they have better views for everyone and easier to work with. Heritage they were rude to some people down the way and they almost left because of it.
