  • An important sacred place amongst Hawaiian that needs to be recognized. It is part of the culture so pay respect when you are inside. Avoid shouting and laughing too loud. Worth your time to visit when you are around the area. Entrance fee is required as this is a historical site. Clean and quiet. To me, this is a place if you want to escape the chaotic world outside. Recommended!
  • Great little national park. Not 100% stroller or wheel chair friendly so plan ahead, first part is rest is sand/rock. Awesome explanation of how people came to Hawaii. The live wood carver was fun to talk to in authentic garb. A trail leads down to a beach with picnic tables. Great spot to recharge as you watch waves crash on an ancient lava flow. After you eat take a stroll out on the old lava. Some people swim in the little pools, not sure about that but people do it. All and all this coupled with the national park junior ranger program makes for happy kids/family under 3 hours.
