#2 of 18 in Beaches in Honolulu
Beach · Hidden Gem · Jogging Path
White sands, crystal clear waters, and a peaceful atmosphere where you can rest or play make Ala Moana Beach Park a favorite among the local islanders. The 40 hectares (100 acres) park is filled with jogging trails, tennis courts, and large, grassy areas, suitable for sports and picnicking. Choose your spot under a tree, grab a table, or just spread your towel on the beach and head for a swim. The waters are nearly always calm, owing to the reef that surrounds the bay. The steep ocean bottom is good for long distance swimming or surfing. Non-swimmers, however, should exercise caution. Showers, bathrooms, and changing rooms are provided at the spot. • A great beach for relaxing in the sun and gentle water activities. The beach is protected from waves when the water is rougher so that it makes this beach perfect for those who aren't very comfortable in the water, learning to swim, wanting to swim laps (locals use it for swimming laps,) have small children, or want a relaxing experience. The park also gives relief from the sun for a picnic under a tree or relaxing in the grass. L&L Barbeque has a location in the park in case you don't have food. The park is well maintained, however the bathrooms can be sub optimal at times.
  • Very nice park. Our family of five and our dog had a picnic here. There is lots of space to spread out and run around, and lots of places to sit. It wasn't too crowded, and the bathrooms were actually pretty clean. Nice way to spend the day or just hang out in the afternoon.
