Honolulu Zoo, Honolulu

#2 of 7 in Zoos & Aquariums in Hawaii
Zoo · Hidden Gem · Zoo / Aquarium
The only zoo in the United States to be given a grant by a sovereign monarch, Honolulu Zoo houses over a thousand animals. King Kalākaua gave the land to the public to establish a large park for his people in the late 19th century. Animals thrive in the mild weather environment near the slopes of the Diamond Head; other animals live in recreated spaces that match their natural habitats. Notice the park's collection of artwork, particularly public sculptures that stand on the walking paths throughout. • A hidden gem right across from Waikiki Beach - veteran friendly! A good variety was way better than we expected. If you have kids or grandkids a must see on the island.  more »
  • Great range of animals to see. Was nice and quiet during visit on a week day. Some enclosures for the animals were under maintenance and renovation but wasn't immediately clear before entry fee payment.
  • Awesome zoo! Lots of different animals to see. Parking is $1.50 per hour but the lot was full by 10am. We had to wait until someone left to use their spot. Watch out for the birds in the food court, they will not hesitate to come right to your table.
