Fordyce Bathhouse (Vistor Center), Hot Springs

4.7
Fordyce Bathhouse (Vistor Center) offers a glimpse into the history of water therapy in the United States within an opulent Renaissance Revival setting. Step into the marble-lined lobby edged with fountains and paved with ceramic floor tiles. The bathhouse was part of the original bathhouse row that Hot Springs grew out of due to the discovery of mineral-rich thermal springs in the early 1800s. The fountains in the lobby once spouted this mineral-rich water constantly. Examine the intricate, stained-glass ceiling of the men's changing room, festooned with mermaids, fish, and bubbles. You can watch a short film outlining the traditional bath routine and also see the music room, which has an intricately patterned tile floor and stained-glass ceiling. • Very interesting and a great history lesson. The man at the front was so incredibly friendly and professional. He Genuinely loves his job and sharing the neat facts about the bath house. We had a great time walking around and learning too! Even my 6 year old daughter enjoyed it.
  • I recommend this as a first stop on your visit to Hot Springs, along with the lookout tower! A lot of great information and a look into the past. The guys working there were super friendly and knowledgeable. I also recommended doing this first if you are doing the Buckstaff bath experience because you'll see all the history behind the bath you get.
