Drive right through a coast redwood, one of the world's tallest trees, at Avenue of the Giants. This 50 km (31 mi) scenic drive wends its way through the towering redwoods of Humboldt Redwoods State Park, home to the biggest group of virgin redwoods in the United States. Follow the avenue through the dark and looming forest alongside the Eel River, and catch glimpses of ferns and douglas fir. Stop at the visitor center for information and exhibits about the wildlife along the avenue and see the drive-thru tree. The avenue provides access to numerous hiking trails.
