Phoenix Gold Mine, Idaho Springs

This place was awesome, hands down. It was the only thing my 9 year old son wanted to do while visiting family in Colorado. Allen did not disappoint. He was an amazing guide and filled with knowledge. The little bus that was essentially the gift shop and office was absolutely cool. Feeding chipmunks was definitely a delight and something I have never done before. I highly recommend this stop. Rich with history and so fascinating. Definitely worth exploring.

A truly unique, family-owned mine. We had the pleasure of getting one of the owners give us a tour. He was so sweet and extremely knowledgeable about not just mining and it’s history, but also scientific processes, chemistry, and more. It was so incredible to get a tour from a miner himself. Truly appreciated his time, attention, and magnitude of information! If you’re in the area I highly recommend it. On top of that, the gold panning is fun (but not easy!!).
