Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Christ Church Cathedral is the cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis. Christ Church parish was formally organized in 1837. The present-day church building was erected in 1857 on Monument Circle at the center of downtown Indianapolis to replace the parish's first church built on the same site. Designed by architect William Tinsley, the English Gothic Revival-style structure is the oldest church building in Indianapolis and Marion County, Indiana, that has remained in continuous use. It is also the oldest building on Monument Circle. Christ Church is known for its music, especially its pipe organs, one of which was donated by Ruth Lilly, and its professional Choir of Men and Boys and Girls' Choir. The parish is also known for its community service, including an annual strawberry festival fundraiser and other charitable work. Christ Church Cathedral was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 10, 1973. It is located in the Washington Street-Monument Circle Historic District.

  • I was lucky enough to step inside this church while the organist was practicing hymns to be sung in the upcoming weekend services. Beautiful music.  more »
  • I visit this church each time I visit Indiana. The mass at 10 is filled with music from a large choir. The service takes and hour and half as everything is sung. There is also an 8 am service with...  more »
  • For one I love this place because it's a church . These are highly committed God Fearing human beings who reach out to the less fortunate of the City of Indianapolis and surrounding counties. Missionary work to other parts of the world definitely is on the list when it comes to the reasoning for the five star rating. On top of that there is an AA meeting in the basement of the church every week day at 12:00 P. M. - 1:00P. M. There's a breakfast on Sunday Morning s starting at 7:00 A.M. until 8:00 A. M. for the less fortunate. I always feel welcome there. God bless 🙏 .
  • Loving clergy and beautiful and inclusive community, every weekday there is a short service at noon, I highly recommend.
