Lively Run Goat Dairy is one of the longest operating commercial goat dairies in the country, beginning production in New York State in 1982 and pioneering goat cheese in the American marketplace. The Messmer family took over operations of Lively Run in 1995, after Steve was discharged from military service and brought his family back from Europe in the early 1990s. Our cheese room is currently running on our seasonal hours, which are Monday through Friday – 10am to 4pm, and we are not giving cheese tastings. If you wish to pick up cheese during the weekends please call ahead at 607-532-4647
We are open for tastings and tours Memorial Day through the end of October. Our summer hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m and cheese tastings are $3/person and the charge goes towards a purchase of $10 or more.
Farm tours are $5/per person at 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Tour price include a cheese tasting. For off season or group tours, please call us at 607-532-4647

Stopped here for some delicious cheese and cute goats. No tours but you were allowed to go in the barn and see the goats. They have a few tables in the shade so we were able to have a picnic lunch. more »
We stopped by the farm shop to pick up some cheese right after they were given the approval to open up their shop after the Covid 19 shutdown. The woman who waited on us was as sweet as could be and.... more »
We visited during Farm Days and got to meet some newborn kids. Lots of fun! The cheese plate was also great (wish we'd had a bottle of wine, too!), and we took some cheeses home. I made an awesome grilled peach and arugula salad with the goat blue cheese--highly recommend! We just brought back some ice wine that also pairs nicely with blue cheese. Glad we found a local dairy to buy from!
Yummy cheeses. We got to pet the goats even though the usually scheduled tours were temporarily suspended. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the staff were not overly friendly. There were two gals in the store and I had to engage them a bit to get even one of them to smile. Otherwise very pleasant experience.
