The Islander Resort has dedicated a portion of the spectacular Florida Keys Conference Center for the Foundation to create the Discovery Center, offering the community a unique opportunity to create, maintain, operate and support a permanent institution that will tell the story of the Florida Keys. The geographic emphasis will be on the Upper Keys, but will encompass other areas as needed to tell the stories in a way that will preserve that history in a meaningful, entertaining and educational manner. The Discovery Center will be interesting and appealing to local residents, school groups from Monroe County and Miami Dade counties and beyond, tourists; adults, families, and scholars interested in indigenous culture of the area.Use our Islamorada trip itinerary planning website to visit Florida Keys History & Discovery Center on your trip to Islamorada, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.

This was an incredible museum with such a rich history of the Keys to impart. Apart from certain sections, I was completely unaware of how much history is in the Keys. From the railroad, whose remnants still line the highway, to the Native Americans who resided in this region before, the museum pays homage to everything.

This is a really neat look into the history of the keys. Several different short movies to watch that are included in the cost. Not hard to find, but not right off the highway. We really enjoyed our time there.
