Laurance Rockefeller Preserve offers 13 km (eight mi) of trails through ecologically significant parkland as part of Grand Teton National Park. Follow paths that lead you through dry meadows of sagebrush and past forests of spruce, pine, cottonwoods, and aspen, then through wetlands. Explore the shores of Lake Phelps, where you can watch for migratory birds. At the visitor center, you can view exhibits about the flora and fauna of the area, as well as information about Laurence S. Rockefeller, who donated the land that forms the park. There are two trails that takes you to lake Phelps starting from Laurence S. Rockefeller preserve. Trail head is the same for both trails for 0.1 mile and then separates when you reach a bridge. Woodland trail is to the right side of the creek. It is shorter and less steep, therefore easier to hike. Lake Creek trail is to the left of the creek. This trail is very scenic but steeper and longer. To get good pictures on the top, by the lake , you should go to the east of the lake were mountain peak could be captured therefore choose morning time. In the morning sun is from behind and gives good lighting.
Did the Phelps lake trail loop starting at the Rockefeller preserve and saw so much wildlife. A bull moose, marmot, black bear, and I think a pine marten. Be aware there are bears in the area, we saw the young black bear near the death canyon crossing.
