#7 of 9 in Nature in Joshua Tree National Park
Eureka Peak is a mountain in the Black Rock Canyon region of Joshua Tree National Park in the U.S. state of California. The peak is the 4th highest summit in the park after Quail Mountain, Queen Mountain and Inspiration Peak. The Eureka Peak Road, an unpaved dirt road, leads up to the summit from Upper Covington Flat and is drivable by 4-wheel drive vehicles under suitable conditions. Mountain biking is also very popular on this peak.
An alternative route, the Eureka Peak Trail, branches off the California Riding and Hiking Trail and ascends the peak from the north.
The upper slopes of the mountain may occasionally see snow in winter.

  • It's in California. Made by our creator. Relatively few people will see it the same day you will so no crowds. Quiet. Calming. What else do or can I say except - GO!!  more »

  • Amazing way to end our day at Joshua Tree NP. The road getting out was a challenging drive, with many holes, ruts and uneven spots in the dirt road. While we saw others driving sedans, I would highly recommend taking a larger vehicle (we drove in a Jeep Grand Cherokee). Sunset views make the drive worth it. Short hike from the parking lot to the peak (.2 miles).
  • I enjoy taking the dirt roads up to this Peak and look out over the desert while I'm there I always pick up trash and set it on a rock because I cannot take it with me and every time I go back someone has taken the trash I'm happy to see that I wish people would stop breaking beer bottles leaving cigarette butts and bottle caps and other trash there but since I've been cleaning it up it looks a lot better with a lot less trash I don't know if anybody else has been cleaning up there but every time I go I walk around pick up everything I see and place it on a rock only because I can't take it with me love this place quit trashing it people
