At the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery Visitor's Center, summer is when salmon abound! During the months of May and June, visitors have the opportunity to see juvenile salmon prior to their release. Adult salmon start returning up our fish ladder the beginning of July and continue through October. Bald Eagles and seals frequent the hatchery and our outside decks provide a fantastic wildlife viewing opportunity. Inside our Visitors Center guests can explore our saltwater aquariums displaying over 150 species of local marine life. We offer tours May-September where visitors can learn about the fascinating life cycle of Pacific salmon & the inner workings of our hatchery from one of our local guides. These tours are a fun, affordable, & educational experience for the whole family!

During winter our aquariums are available to the public by appointment only. Salmon product can be ordered by phone or email and shipped anywhere in the United States. The Visitor’s Center is available for rent November through March & makes a great event space for the holiday season.

  • I never knew what salmon did in their lifetie. It was incredible to behold the ladder. Who new salmon returned to their birthplace to complete their life cycle. Pretty amazing to witness.  more »
  • My wife and I were on a tour and one of the stops was the fish hatchery. It is set up very well for visitors to view the salmon ladders and holding tanks and also the hatch lings in huge tanks. There....  more »
  • This is a fun, quick stop to see the salmon. It's worth the time. There is a paid tour, but you can see tons of fish just along the shore. Have fun!
  • Great excursion and your. Happened to go when they were spawning. Great to see. Lots of bald eagles are around on the way there and all around the hatchery.
