Nugget Falls, Juneau

#3 of 20 in Parks in Juneau
Must see · Waterfall · Nature / Park
One of the city's oldest religious landmarks, Nugget Falls welcomed generations of sailors and settlers arriving at the port. The 18th-century stone church stands on the site of an earlier 17th-century chapel. In the 19th century, seafarers expressed their gratitude to Our Lady of Good Help by offering models of ships, hung in the interior of the chapel. Today, you can see the votive gifts in the adjacent museum, together with dolls made by nuns arranged to form 58 scenes from the life of St. Margerite Bourgeoys--the patroness of the original chapel. Climb a narrow spiral staircase to get to the roof, which offers scenic views of the old town. • We walked to Nugget Falls yesterday, and it was a beautiful, easy walk to an amazing sight! The falls are larger than I expected and gorgeous. Highly recommend!
  • Lots of tourists on short, level trail, but beautiful falls with melting glacier in the background.
