Learn 2 Kite Maui, Kahului

I couldn't ask for a better kite boarding instructor. Todd Davis teaches all the essential stuff you'll never find in print, that would have taken you a decade to figure out on your own even if you're a creative genius. His teaching style (perhaps it differs as suits individuals) is hands-on go-for-the-gusto at the pragmatic (and grueling) edge of ensuring you have the safety skills and building blocks necessary to move forward. He doesn't waste a second, and is very good natured. I'm generally an adept self-taught person, learning faster on my own than from instructors, but in this case I feel a couple afternoons with Todd may have advanced me past a years worth (not too many good kite days where I live) of struggling on my own. He teaches at a gorgeous beach if you're into the undeveloped casual scene which progress and tourism has obliterated. I see now why Maui is considered the best place on earth to kite: beautiful, warm air, warm water, and wind. I've been boogie-boarding SoCal all my life, but considering what getting up safely with a kite really entails, I would have been too freaked to try it in Maui without a local with 20 something years of teaching experience, to let me know I was approaching those reefs (which surround the whole island basically) appropriately. I've had other background water sports, but was a beginner at this. None-the-less I tend to hang out with teachers in all fields, and get a strong sense that Todd has something to offer students and pros at all levels. Thanks again.

Learn 2 Kite is situated just steps away from a secluded beachfront, downwind from KiteBeach, and was a perfect location for lessons. Came here on vacation with a friend, who has been patiently waiting for me to be able to water start, so I decided to take some further lessons. My experience with L2K was phenomenal, and IMO it is truly the best place to learn. Later I visited the area where others teach, and it really put it into perspective, how superior my experience was.
