Once a favorite vacation home of Hawaiian royalty, Hulihe'e Palace now houses a museum displaying Victorian furniture and art from the era of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani. Built in the 1830s of native lava rock, coral lime mortar, and koa and ohia timbers, the lavish two-story palace sits in the heart of Kailua-Kona, a historic community that once served as the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Severely damaged by an earthquake, the palace underwent a full restoration in 2009 and now offers limited tours to the public (which cost a modest fee). You can explore the palace grounds for free. The on-site gift shop sells handmade artwork and books about the region's history and culture. Our Kailua-Kona route builder website makes visiting Hulihe'e Palace and other Kailua-Kona attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

It was just OK. If you've never seen a nice home from the 1800s, or you're very interested in Hawaiian royal ancestry, then you'll find it more interesting. The grounds are very pretty, right on the water. A relaxing place. It has no restrooms. $8 for adults to enter the palace. Walking the grounds are free.

Very cool historic home. Its a bit small and $10 admission per person felt a little steep, but I never complain about contributing money to preserve historical sites. You will take your shoes off before you go in and no photos are allowed inside. Beautiful place, beautiful historical artifacts, charming little museum.
