Kauai artist, Joanna Carolan, started Banana Patch Studio in 1991. Initially a one-woman operation, Banana Patch Studio now employs over 20 artists, all creating unique tiles, pottery and fine art. Visit our studio in Hanapepe and watch artists at work creating vibrant hand painted ceramic tiles and pottery. In addition, view the wonderful artwork of Joanna Carolan and other local Kauai artists.
Banana Patch Studio’s ceramic tiles, wall plaques, clocks and pottery are all hand painted with aloha using lead-free glazes and kiln fired to 1890°F. Photovoltaic solar panels are used to power our electric kilns. The weather in Hanapepe is usually sunny, so when our kilns are not in use, our photovoltaic panels contribute electricity to Kauai’s grid.
Visit Banana Patch Studio on the island of Kauai in Historic Hanapepe Town or at Kong Lung Center in Kilauea.
Our original "Mahalo for removing your shoes" tiles grace many front doors as a reminder of the local custom to remove your shoes before entering a Hawaiian home. Made with Aloha!
Banana Patch Studio reviews
They make a quality product and have an attractive store. We were shopping for small plates that we hang on the wall. We visited their store in Kilauea. There are other locations on Kauai. more »
During the Covid pandemic, we found we needed to purchase some gifts to mail to friends. But so many local stores were closed. We called Banana Patch Studio in Hanapepe and we were told to come down..... more »
UPDATE: This amazing local business in Hanapepe truly has the Aloha Spirit! Apparently, they read my review below, as they reached out to me and made arrangements to ship me a brand-new canister of the Surfer Salve, which I just received this week. Unbelievable! Banana Patch Studio gets extra-super-high marks for awesome customer service - 7 out of 5 stars for going above and beyond! Thank you!!! ORIGINAL REVIEW: Great little store and good prices! Nice Nani fabric bags at a good price and some unique gifts and artworks made right on the premises by artisans, who you can view through a window separating the two halves of the shop, painting and creating. The only thing that marred my experience was that I accidentally bought a tester of the Surfer Salve, which I gave as a gift - I didn't notice it was a tester, and obviously the shop assistant didn't either. But it was my fault for not noticing. A really nice little gift shop in a sweet little town!
Lot of smaller Hawaiian related, trinket type products, many hand painted. Painted pictures, ceramics and more. Always interesting to watch ceramics being painted by hand thru glass windows!
