A thrilling experience, one of the highlights of my recent 2 week trip to Hawaii! I booked a My Kona Adventures Manta Ray snorkel experience in late Nov 2019 and all the participants on my trip loved it! This experience is run in a small group of 6 where you hold on to a big floatation device which has a huge light in it. Good quality wetsuits and snorkel masks were provided, the boat ride was very short and as soon as we got into the water, we were watching 4 large manta rays barrel rolling for the plankton underneath us. Our in water guide Taco was fantastic as he gave us information about the various manta rays and always pulled us into locations where the mantas were so we could see as many mantas in our 30min experience as possible. There were plenty of fish eating as well. But the biggest highlight was when the mantas started barrel rolling just centimetres from the surface of the water. It was majestic and they did it over and over again to the point where you had to pull back your body and limbs to make sure you don't touch them. They are such majestic creatures. And the care and attention the My Kona Adventures crew gave to us and to the marine life was very impressive and much appreciated. I would definitely do this again and I highly rate this company and tour.
Wow!!! Manta Ray Night Snorkel I did the 6:40 pm snorkel. I knew it would be good. I thought it might be spectacular. That was just the manta rays. Kona Adventures does an amazing job. You don't want a large group and they only take 6 at a time. The dive or snorkel is less than 3 minutes away from dock. We were the only group out there for quite a while, which meant ours were the only lights bringing the rays our way. I had read that Tuesday evenings might mean fewer boats, less lights, fewer mantas. Fewer lights means they are with YOU and only you. We had the bay to ourselves and FIVE mantas gracefully dancing/feeding, putting on a show for us. I am a certified night diver, but night dives were never my happy place. Add large creatures into the mix, and my heart always raced. This was an absolutely surreal experience. We could see the rays before we jumped in and when I reached for the ladder we gripped onto, the white belly of one of them was smoothly gliding under me, never touching me. DREAMLIKE! I was fearful of being touched by one. In fact, I prayed to not be touched, until I was used to them. I knew they don't hurt anyone EVER, but the fear was there. Towards the end of our time in the water, after I had time to adjust to "this is really happening. They're huge and sweet", I was barely touched twice and didn't mind a bit. How does something that HUGE glide and swirl/dance so gracefully, so close to us and each other and not collide?! Kona Adventures was the perfect fit. I enjoy smaller groups and they take 6 people. Perfect customer service, start to finish. Josh helped from the little table at the dock and the captain of our little boat was great, as well as the man in the water. I will bring my husband with me next time...SOON. This was a night to remember
