Operated as a non-profit, Hawk Mountain is a nature-tourism site; membership and trail fees support raptor conservation programs. People visit Hawk Mountain for hiking, birding, autumn hawk watching, scientific study and wildlife observation.

Hawk Mountain's conservation science program works internationally to protect birds of prey along the entire length of their flyways. The Hawk Mountain Conservation Science Internship Program has trained more than 300 young people from 62 countries on six continents.
