The historical location of a major Civil War event, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park preserves the site of a battle fought between the Union and Confederate armies on June 18, 1864. Over 5,300 soldiers died during this battle, won against all odds by the vastly outnumbered Confederate forces. Designated as one of the country's historical districts in 1966, the park contains three major battlefield areas and a visitor center, where you’ll find a museum, theater, and information desk. Stop by the theater to watch short films about the battle, or walk some of the 27 km (17 mi) of interpretative hiking trails, which are lined with earthworks, cannon emplacements, and monuments dedicated to the soldiers who fought here. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park reviews
Overrun with exerciser sizers it has become a recreational rather than historic site. It’s hard to find parking at the visitor center and most tour stops. Still if you are willing to deal with the..... more »
Visited during a business visit to Atlanta. Visitor center staff and Rangers are helpful. Hiked 6 miles of the Kennesaw Mountain trail. A definite workout! The trail is challenging but worth it. I... more »
Phenomenal place! Definitely my new favorite place to jog around Marietta. Gorgeous scenery... the running trails are immaculate, well maintained, undulating (rolling hills) and well marked on Google maps... fortunate for me b/c I got to playing and didn't realize I turned off and went down the trail taking me down wrong way and added an extra 4+miles! The mountain trail is challenging enough to make it fun but not so much you'll regret it... some parts may be too tough for the elderly and those unstable on their feet. The cannons at the top and marked lines of defense for the Confederate States' army tells the story and the significance of that site. Well written and Interesting. There's a road that goes up so you can drive most of the way and see from the lookout areas. The ONLY negative I could say about this place isn't the fault of the park itself... but the traffic around the entrance has been pretty bad both times I've been there.
Great park to go out and explore in. I highly recommend this park for everyone in the area. The trail is great even on hot days because the trees cover the path. The walk up is pretty steep but it's not too overwhelming. I wish the view at the top of the mountain was more scenic. Besides that everything else about the mountain was expected. I will definitely be returning to this place.
