This museum was very well thought out. The curator made it interactive, so the self guided tour was very interesting at all times. Following the railroad tracks you could read about and saw how the.... more »

I love the way it's a very even handed view not a "good guy vs. bad guy" viewpoint... at first I was a little confused with the civil war & railroad museum idea, but, when you think about it, the railroad and the telegraph were the greatest methods to move forces/reinforcements and logistical supplies... this was fundamentally altered warfare forever. Moving personnel & logistics, and real-time battlefield intelligence is the key to winning war still today... of course with the addition of air superiority.
This is a great little museum! A must-see is you love trains. Very reasonably priced. There is A LOT to read (which makes the front portion a bit boring for the kids), but I thought it got more and more interesting the further in you went. There is a kids area for hands on play, as well as a scavenger hunt that keeps the kids observant throughout the museum. We spent about two hours exploring, and could have stayed longer, if we read everything (and watched the short movie that they have). It's also right in the middle of Kennesaw, with beautiful grounds. You can easily walk to nearby shops and restaurants. There is a public parking lot in the back. We went on a Monday, and nearly had the museum to ourselves. I'm sure we'll be back!
