Baranof was conceived by AJ and Chuck Slagle while overnighting on the beach at Slate Island in the year 2000. Having grown up hunting and fishing in Southeast Alaska and passionate about the multitude of wilderness experiences available outside of Ketchikan they believed a family looking for the true Alaskan experience should be introduced to not only the joys of sport fishing but also offered the simple Alaskan pleasures, such as eating a selection of fresh Alaskan seafood, beach combing, and the enjoyment of campfires on a remote Alaskan beach. The Slagle's believe a personal introduction to the southeast Alaska lifestyle is more than a box of fish. We arrived in Ketchikan on a rainy day with rough seas. Luckily we were assigned to go out with Captain Trent. This was one of my bucket list items and I wasn't disappointed. Even though it was too rough to go out into the better fishing waters, Capt Trent put us right on the fish. We caught 13 keepers. 11 Cod, 1 Pollack, and 1 Halibut. I caught a 40" Halibut that we had to release. We didn't even count all the ones we threw back. When we returned to the dock no other boat caught close to what we had. Capt. Trent is a BOSS! Thanks Capt Trent for making our trip so awesome.
Was on a cruise to Alaska on the Norwegian Bliss, we used Baranof fishing excursions and I have to say what a wonderful experience. I enjoyed my very first fishing excursion with captain Matt. We told him we had a bet on who could catch the biggest fish, Matt took us to a spot for the big fish. Caught us some nice size Halibut, we experienced our first whale whale sightings. Matt was extremely knowledgeable regarding fishing and very attentive. Thank you Baranof and Matt for the best fishing experience, because of you I will do this again. Thank you so much!!! By the way we win the bet!!!
