Key West Aquarium is a perfect place to forget your fear of sharks by feeding and petting one. Started based on the dream of Dr. Van Deusen, it developed into the first open-air aquarium in 1935. Exhibits show sea life, including jellyfish, alligators, and a living red mangrove ecosystem. A touch tank allows you to feel and hold some of the marine creatures. The educational program about invasive species is recommended. Add Key West Aquarium and other attractions to your Key West trip itinerary using our Key West road trip site.

  • We had an amazing time! This is a small, older facility but the staff (and their animals) really make it amazing, educational, and interactive! They have talks about different conservation topics throughout the day. We spent about an hour there and listened to 3 different talks; one about sharks, one about turtles, and one about invasive species. I am an animal keeper at a zoological facility too so I really loved seeing the aquarist’s relationships with their animals. They have a Kemp’s sea turtle (super rare to see as they are critically endangered) named Lola who was getting shell scratches by her doting staff. The touch tank educator was so nice and helpful, a joy to talk to. During the shark talk we were even able to feed their Nurse sharks and get to know them, Lucille was my favorite! It was just an all around awesome time for any true animal lover! They are doing amazing work with conservation and education. Definitely worth seeing and supporting! ❤️🦈🐡🐢🦀🐠🐍🦐🐟🐙❤️
  • Really nice staff but honestly this place is super small. We were expecting to spend a lot of time there but we kind of went through everything in like 20 minutes. If you’ve ever been to any other aquarium than I would say don’t waste your time going to this one. The best part for my niece was the touch pool but otherwise it was “meh”.
