Explore maritime artifacts without getting wet, and learn how the locals made a living out of salvaging at Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum. Throughout history, many ships have been lost in the treacherous waters off Key West. For a while, pulling in hauls from shipwrecks was the basis of the island's economy. At this museum, an actor portraying Asa Tift, the 19th-century salvaging baron, takes you on a tour of the building, which is a reproduction of Tift's warehouse. Many of the artifacts were carried by the merchant ship Isaac Allerton that sank in 1856 and yielded the greatest-ever booty from Key West shipwrecks. You'll also see artifacts recovered from other ships. Don't forget to climb up the 20 m (65 ft) tall wreck-spotting tower. Buy tickets at discounted prices online. • When ever we go to a city we get tickets to the hop bus. One problem with the bus is when cruise ships come in there are no seats to hop back on.  more »
  • A place that contains a lot of history, which is a must visit, that we all have to go a story to remember... Everything is very well preserved.

  • The museum itself is pretty mediocre; however, there is a part of the museum that leads you to the top of the museum and the view there is beautiful. Definitely worth the 5 minute walk up a bunch of stairs.
  • Interesting look at the local history, particularly of the "wreckers" (rescue & salvage crews). The living history actress on the second floor was particularly fun, be sure to ask for the pirate jokes. You'll get to see some recovered treasure and salvaged goods. On the top floor is a door leading out and up to the best view in Key West. Worth the visit, but be warned you'll need to be able to climb steps!
