Designated a National Historic Landmark, the Luykas Van Alen house is a restored house museum representing 18th century rural Dutch farm life in the Hudson River Valley.

Called “...one of the most authentic examples of early Dutch architecture remaining in the United States.” by then-Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller (1964).

Also available on the property is the Dutch Farming Heritage Trail linking the Luykas Van Alen property with the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, 'Lindenwald'.

    Nancy was our guide today. She was warm, funny, and informative. I didnt know much about Dutch colonial life and somehow had lumped all 18th-century inhabitants into a general melting pot. But there.....  more »

    Docents Karen & Lisa with the Columbia County Historical Society we’re knowledgeable, charming and entertaining. We had a great time visiting both the Van Allen house and the Ichabod school house.

    There's a nice hiking trail behind the house that is 1.7 miles over to the Martin Van Buren house, lived here for years had no idea! Very nice walk through farm land, you can almost imagine what it was like back in the day.
