Bonelli house, Kingman

4.1
Bonelli House is at the corner of Fifth and Spring Streets in Kingman, Arizona. The house was built in 1915.
George Bonelli built the house with local tufa stone from Metcalfe Quarry. Construction is 2 stories, rectangular, low hipped roof with dormers recessed galerie on 3 sides supported by square wooden pillars, front center entrance with transom and sidelights, interior chimneys, French doors and tall windows for ventilation, 12-14" insulating walls; early plumbing and wiring intact, many original furnishings. A vernacular adaptation of the “raised cottage style” well suited for the desert climate.
This was the second home on the same property, the original home burned down in 1915. The Bonellis owned a large ranch, general store, and jewelry store, and a meat market in Chloride, Arizona.
The property belongs to the City of Kingman and is operated as a historic house museum by the Mohave County Historical Society. The Society also operates the Mohave Museum of History and Arts.

  • Nice home to tour..very well maintained..Mr.Bonelli was certainly ahead of his time..he had invented a way to get his wife hot water in her kitchen and had many conveniences most people knew nothing about for years after..Interesting to know that when the family sold the home to the town it was with the understanding it would always be preserved and several of the great great grandchildren continue return to tour the house
  • While on vacation we toured museums and Bonelli was one of them. Wonder gentleman gave us a private tour and told us about the history of the home and area! Great stop!
