About 35 miles from South Lake Tahoe lies Kirkwood Mountain Resort. It may be remote, but in this solitary horseshoe canyon, climate and geography conspire to create one of the purest, most authentic, big-mountain ski experiences in North America. Kirkwood is the siren call for those adventure seekers who prefer their snow deep and their terrain steep. Home to the Freeride World Tour, the resort features some of the country’s most diverse and challenging inbounds terrain. From cornices to couloirs…from wide-open bowls to chutes too tight to turn a ski in…Kirkwood offers 2300 acres of mountain that will challenge skiers and riders from first chair to last. And if you’re craving prolific, majestic, magical snow, this is where you’ll find that rare blend of quantity and quality. Averaging more than 600 inches per year, it comes down lighter and drier and piles up much deeper at Kirkwood than anywhere else in the region.
Kirkwood Mountain Resort Reviews
If the weather is good over Carson Pass, Kirkwood is worth the drive over Carson Pass. There is plenty of mountain to spread out on. Two suggestions: more shuttles to get from the parking lots to the ... more »

They offer classes for those who do not know and for children. In the resort has everything, markets shops and restaurants. It is also a good option for those who just want to stroll and enjoy the natural beauty.
Kirkwood is simply a great ski area. The mountain, the people, the amenities are all up there with much high priced resorts. There isn't a restaurant on top of the mountain or a gondola but the lift prices are way less that the big resorts. It is very family friendly and if you want the party atmosphere there is that too in the evening. I recommend.
Snow like the blessing of an angel. When it comes down it's like the sweetest honey milk from the gods into unrivaled skiing terrain. When there's no snow, go with your plan b skis/board. The epic terrain will correct the unprepared traveler. Well well well worth the drive up to, in the eyes of me and every one of my buddies the best mountain in a 500mile radius
