Great place to enjoy the transcon trains! the inside cabin consists of a cozy fireplace, chairs, and some posters to view on the wall with helpful and interesting information about La Plata and surrounding! Feel free to bring a marker or sharpie as they allow you to tag your name, date you were there, or any other cool information or drawings if you wish but make sure to keep it family friendly. Radio scanners from frequencies around the western part of the Marceline Subdivision as well as Norfolk Southern’s Kansas City District can be faintly heard from the outside deck and can be heard inside the cabin. 50 to 70 trains on average pass through La Plata in a 24 hour period including both Amtrak Southwest Chief 3 and 4.
