FAMILY HISTORY RESOURCES. Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society contains one of the best genealogical research libraries in the state, with 3000 published genealogies, 2500 cemetery transcriptions, Lancaster County court and tax records, access to Ancestry.com and unique online and print databases containing more than 290,000 names. MUSEUM. The Historical Society museum is open during regular business hours. Admission is $5, with discounts for groups, seniors and children. The current exhibit, "Decorated and Plain: An Amish and Mennonite Sampler," offers a stunning selection of Pennsylvania German folk art, tools, clothing and furniture.
EVENTS In collaboration with the 1719 Hans Herr House Museum, Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society hosts "Lancaster Roots," a year-long schedule of concerts, classes, festivals, field trips, lectures, exhibits and sales. Visit www.LancasterRoots.org for the complete calendar.
BOOK SALES. Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society sells more than 40,000 used books at an annual outdoor "Bookworm Frolic" each August. Auctions of rare, used and out-of-print books are held six times a year. Phone and e-mail bids are accepted. The Book and Museum Store offers some of the region's best resources for Amish and Mennonite history, faith, art and culture. New and used books also can be purchased through the Society's website, www.lmhs.org.
ARCHIVES & LIBRARY. The archives and 30,000-volume library is a research center for Pennsylvania Mennonite and Amish history and theology. It holds a significant collection of historical materials pertaining to south-central Pennsylvania, including photographs, fraktur and the records of two Mennonite conferences, as well as papers for hundreds of individuals and Mennonite congregations.

Excellent source of research materials, including published family histories and index cards. Mennonite and some Amish materials available. Membership (fee) allows for off site online research. Copier (.25/page) and computers available. Very helpful and friendly staff. Gift shop and museum, as well. Conveniently located next to Tanger Outlets.

An excellent resource center, with a small admission fee, to learn about the Amish and Mennonite communities. This should be a destination for anyone interested in these two groups.
