Cedars of Lebanon State Forest is known for its cedar glades, a unique type of ecosystem that has adapted to the thin (or nonexistent) soil layers that often occur in the eastern Central Basin. These glades are typically flanked by thick stands of red cedar, a type of juniper tree that can survive in soil layers too thin to support most large wooded plants. The presence of the red cedar in the basin reminded the region's early Euro-American settlers of the Lebanese cedar forests of Biblical fame.

Absolutely loved this Park. Exceptionally clean. Easy to get around. Awesome trails. An amazing refreshing splash pad for the kids(wish they had more umbrellas), all an all an amazing experience. Keep in mind you must have a reservation, even if last minute or for the night. The camp store has a few of your essentials if you left something behind.
Cedars' of Lebanon is a really nice state part. We stayed 3 nights in our Travel Trailer. The campground host was very friendly and helpful. The campsite we were at was a bit small and close to the next camper, but there were many others to choose from that were more spacious and shaded. There is plenty of hiking in and around the park. I really enjoyed the boulder beds on the Cedar Forest Trail, but the special habitat of this region is the limestone glades. Glades range from bare rock to a thin substrate of soil with desert-like vegetation to shallow soil grasslands. The glades may be small or large open areas surrounded by cedar trees. When we were there in late winter there was not much to be seen in the way of wildflowers, but the trails were very quiet and pleasant. Also, if you want to spend a day in the city, Nashville is less than 45 minutes away.
