Bear Gulch Pictographs, Lewistown

#574 of 760 in Things to do in Montana
Beargulch is an incredibly well-preserved pictograph and petroglyph site located in the heart of Montana's Big Sky Country.

BearGulch is a privately-owned park whose goal is to preserve the rock art and share it with generations to come. We survive on the tour fees and the generosity of people who share our goal.

We have future plans to upgrade the park, including elevated boardwalks, more trails, a visitor's center and campground space. These upgrades will come as finances allow.

We give one tour a day (weather permitting), 5 days a week (Wed-Sun), and always eager to have visitors.
Our Lewistown travel planner makes visiting Bear Gulch Pictographs and other Lewistown attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • I’m fascinated with rock art. This is hands down the best location I’ve experienced. We stayed in Ray’s campground and the view and weather were perfect. The tour with Ray as the guide was outstanding. His knowledge of the area is very impressive, and he was able to share it with the group in a way helped me learn a great deal. We live about 1200 miles away from Bear Gulch and are going to make sure to stop there again.
  • My husband and I had a wonderful experience seeing these special pictographs on a private ranch. Ray, did a great job as the tour guide and his genuine dedication to the place was obvious with his vast information of these pictographs and the research being done.
