The Lincoln Heritage Museum began in 1942 when Lincoln College alumnus Judge Lawrence Stringer donated his vast collection of Lincoln and Logan County history to Lincoln College. The collection has continued to grow through the generosity of many, including Ralph Newman, Stewart McClelland, James Hickey, and Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, the last living descendant of Abraham Lincoln.

Today, the museum showcases many rare Lincoln artifacts, including an original 1860s "railsplitter" canidate banner, the ballot box in whcih Lincoln cast his vote for president in 1860, mourning clothes worn by Mary Lincoln, and a wealth of Civil War rifles, soldiers' items, and recruitment broadsides just to name a few.

  • Museum is operating although adjacent Lincoln College is not, and still is easy to reach with GPS. Visitor donations recommended rather than ticketed. A sophisticated hour-long narrative of Lincoln's life with sound, lights, and artifacts takes up a whole level and is appropriate for all but small children (war and death themes) with one brief deathbed scene in particular. Another level is devoted to case-displays and panels but is thematic so it can be viewed at your own pace.
  • Very cool place my first presidential historical visitation (which increased my interest) I have since been to President Warren G. Harding and plan on going to more.
