  • This is the one of best sand dune beach in the central California! This beach belongs to USSF, meaning that it is Federal property, so it's under their juridiction. You will notice that the USSF controls the area, specially when they launch rockets! It opens at 08:00 untill 18:00 daily, and there are restrictions posted for protecting an endangered species called Snowy plover, from 1st March through 30th September every year. The water is cold, as saying goes the ocean is one season behind the inland, even though 5~6 miles inland is hot. And it is windy, so you need to bring extra layers.
  • My fortress of solitude. Please adhere to guidelines for beach entry and use. From MARCH-OCTOBER (I believe) there are limitations for the beach, including distance and animals. As a result of a positive mayoral relationship with VSFB, we now have volunteers that are posted (during the afore mentioned season) who are welcoming and will explain the rules for beach use for those that are visiting or coming to the beach for the first time. I love this beach. I have many deep connections to this place. I used to surf here when I was younger. I've felt the pain of the planet here before. I feel for the families and loved ones of those that were attacked by sharks. The water can be dangerous (as always and must be treated with respect), but this place is a sacred, beautiful gem. There are bathrooms (not the best, but they suffice), tidal warning signs and Amtrak access. The coastal train trip is unimaginable and will show you coastal views not otherwise accessible, or viewable. Long story short, respect this place. Respect the guidelines. Respect the land. Respect the locals, visitors, people plants and animals. The snowy plover debate is deep, but by adhering to the regulations we are able to enjoy the beach. In the past, when the maximum violations have been reached, beach access is closed. We've come a long way! Visit the area. It's beautiful. And come make memories like I have of spreading spreading my grandfather's ashes, surfing and skim boarding with friends. Meditating and contemplating life. A refuge. A getaway. A place to expand the mind and deepen your connection to the land and earth. Enjoy!
