  • Very nice that you can go on different sides towards the cols on the Pacific Crest (Trail Pass, Cottonwood Pass, New Army Pass). A big advantage is also that you are very fast (the road goes up smoothly) at over 3000 meters. This means you have to climb a lot less altitude meters and you can walk faster and deeper into the wilderness. Also convenient (free) camping on the trailhead, better (and colder) than the options you have in Lone Pine. I found the road beautiful and not dangerous at all.
