  • I just stayed on the Queen Mary and the sub, which is docked flanking the ship, is looking pretty rusty and neglected. Also, all of the signage for the sub has been removed and the admission booth/sho...  more »

  • Last time I was in the Long Beach area was back in October 2000. I'd gone through Scorpion B-427 the summer before and had an absolutely dynamic time just exploring her from one end to the other. They do put stairs in there for people to get through the hatches, so it's not wheelchair accessible. I discovered that the "regular" bunks the Soviet sailors used are as long as I am tall, and my shoulders go from one edge to the other. First advertising I saw for the sub was back in 1998, and it was billed as "Queen Mary and Scorpion: Stealth and Wealth Side By Side". I can't really say enough about the Scorpion... you really do have to see her to understand her. I plan to return to Long Beach sometime soon to take another tour of Queen Mary and Scorpion B-427 until my heart's content.
  • LOVE this tour of the infamous "Scorpion" Russian submarine. You can tour it at your own pace, checking out the cramped quarters, even sitting down at the officers table. There is some great history here, so bring your camera and enjoy taking pictures of old school uber complicated guages, levers and dials. And check out how small that bathroom was - wow! Pro tip - the submarine is tight inside, and requires you to be pretty flexible to crawl through some spaces. If you've got some physical challenges, be aware that some parts of the sub can prove tough to get through.
