Purportedly the first "cageless" animal park in the United States, the touring roads through Lion Country Safari weave among animals commonly found on African safari. After purchasing a ticket to the park, you'll be handed an audiotape or CD to play as a guided tour for your drive. It is important to drive slowly and keep doors and windows closed at all times. In the chimpanzee exhibit, chimps mimic their natural behavior by migrating from island to island within the park, and the exhibit are also used to research the primates' complex behavior. After the driving tour, the visit Safari World Ferris wheel, petting zoo, and rides. Great place. I've enjoyed this park for decades. It's so nice to drive through and enjoy watching the animals from the vehicle looking out as zebras, rhinos, giraffes etc run free around us. It's almost like we are in the cage and they are free instead of the other way around like in a zoo. Animals seem happy and very well cared for, staff is friendly and helpful and there is a nice area to walk around and let the kids play in the water park and a restaurant to sit in the air conditioning and have a affordable bite to eat. A lovely park.
We loved out visit to Lion Country Safari! We were visiting from Ohio and could not have been more pleased. Our almost 3 year old was very excited to see all the animals. She had her eyes glued to them the whole car portion of the safari. Inside the park we had the most fun doing the giraffe feeding and the splash pad.
Great place to take the family for a good day of fun. It is one of the few places where you can actually drive through and see animals in their own habitats. The animals freely roam and often walk up to or around the cars so kids and parents can get an up close and personal experience with animals such ostrich. There is giraffe feeding that I highly recommend and even a splash park where kids can cool off on a hot day. We have been here a number of times and have never been disappointed.
Very cool place! Awesome to drive around with the animals right beside or in front of your car. They give you a CD to listen to as you drive though the park, which will explain lots of info about the animals as you get to each section. The driving through takes about an hour to an hour and a half. But then you have the entire other side of the park to go through. There are a lot more animals to see - sorta like a small zoo. There's a water splash pad area for the kids. Water slides and a big fun slide (if you don't wanna get wet). You can feed various animals for a small fee (anywhere from a quarter for fish to $2 for giraffes). Hand feeding the giraffes was incredible!! There are also small rides, like a carousel. And a miniature golf area. We didn't get to all parts of the park in one day (6 hrs in the summer heat was enough for us). So we'll be going back soon.
My family loves this place. It's a wonderful day excursion especially for your younger children. Even adults will be in awe of the beautiful animals that walk right next to you in your car as you drive through the park. The rides are nice, there's miniature golf to enjoy, a petting zoo, giraffe feeding, restaurant and snack stands, gift shop and a water park. The staff are friendly and all the areas are clean and beautifully maintained. It's worth the price of admission but usually there's always an online coupon to save a little money. You just have to look for it.
