Create an itinerary including Ludington State Park
One of the most popular state parks in Michigan, Ludington State Park beckons visitors for fishing, hiking, camping, and swimming in Lake Michigan. The park's 2,100 hectares (5,300 acres) encompass many ecosystems including forests, sand dunes, beaches, a dam, a river, and the lake. Visit the nature center for information on the park and recent wildlife sightings. Take a short walk along the beach to visit Big Sable Point Lighthouse, which dates to 1876 and stands 34 m (112 ft) tall. You can get out on the water by renting a boat on Hamlin Lake, or enjoy swimming in this man-made lake created by the Hamlin Lake Dam. • We had a quick stop at Ludington State Park on our way from the Indiana Dunes area on our way to Traverse City. I definitely would like to return someday to see more of the park. We had our dog...

  • I went through this park for few hours. I've liked it very much. There are beautiful dunes, small ponds, many places with access to the beach. The vegetation is very interesting. I could stay there...

  • My family has been visiting Ludington state park for over 60 years and through three generations. Through the years we have found endless joy here, from camping, to boating, swimming and of course, campfires. Ludington is a great place to kick back and relax, listen to the sounds of peaceful woods and the gentle waves of Lake Michigan. Alternatively it's also a great place to take adventurous hikes through the forest, climb mountainous sand dunes and water ski. There's fun here for anyone with appreciation for the outdoors. There are few places on earth I'd rather spend a sunny day.
  • Such a beautiful, expansive park, with all the camping or day tripping desires - a small sandy lake with swimming area, beach house with concessions, changing rooms, and bathrooms, kayak rentals, hiking trails, interpretive trails, fishing, ranger talks and activities, dunes, a lighthouse you can climb (for a small fee), and Lake Michigan with another beach house and all the goods, including a mini-museum. The 4 campgrounds (one being hike-in) are fantastic. RVs abound of course and there's only one small area with tents only camping (unfortunately without electric, which is hard these days when our cell phones contain our entire lives.) Backup batteries were a must. Solar chargers were helpful, but slow to charge of course. We got great data and reception with T-mobile, but our friends with Verizon got no data and occasional reception. Plumbed bathrooms in the three main campgrounds are nice, and cleaned twice daily. Plenty of showers as well (and additional bathrooms being built in Beechwood campground to open in June 2022.)
