In early 2006, a small group had a vision of creating a children’s museum. On October 25, 2006, Sandcastles, A Lake Michigan Children’s Museum, was established with a board of 6 members who applied for non-profit status. In February 2007, the board held a public meeting to explain its vision and encourage others to get involved. In March, the first exhibit, Help Us Build The Museum, went on display at the Family AfFair. In June, Sandcastles opened for its first summer on South James Street. We held a Summer Science Camp and sponsored activities at Friday Night Lives, the Mason County Fair, and Oktoberfest. We celebrated our 10th anniversary in May of 2017.Work out when and for how long to visit Sandcastles Children's Museum and other Ludington attractions using our handy Ludington trip planner.
Sandcastles Children's Museum reviews
My son loves going here when we travel to Ludington for our summer vacation. He's 10 now and /still/ wants to go. There's plenty of fun items to play with even if you're a slightly bigger kid. more »

We are from out of town and hung here today. My 3 and 1 1/2 yo boys loved it! So many fun, role play, and learning opportunities! Something for all kids. I thought the set-up, displays, and 3 floors worked well for spreading out the inevitable chaos of kids. Staff were awesome. I want one of these where I'm from!
I didn’t know what to expect but after hearing good things about it and seeing the great reviews, we gave it a try on a rainy day and the kids loved it! We spent 2 1/2 hours there but had to leave for lunch and didn’t even play with everything! Definitely have to go back again soon! Highly recommend!!!
