Flag Ponds Nature Park is a nature preserve located in Lusby, Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County, Maryland. It is operated by the Calvert County Department of Natural Resources. The park includes nature trails and a beach for swimmers. Fossil shark's teeth eroded from the Calvert Cliffs formation may be collected on the beach. The area included in the park was once a center for pound net fishing from the early 1900s through 1955. One fishing shanty remained until October 2012 when it burned down. It has since been rebuilt.Make Flag Ponds Nature Park a centerpiece of your Lusby vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Lusby trip planner.

This is another lovely Lusby destination known for the opportunity to find some ancient shark teeth, by serendipity at times. Nice place to relax on the beach sitting in a chair.

The beach is bigger and we found a few sharks' teeth. Going in the morning is, of course, ideal. I see a lot of complaints about the rangers scooping up the big teeth, but so much of shark tooth...

Park is lovely as is the beach access. We unfortunately picked a dreadfully hot/humid/breezeless day to be there but I would highly recommend. Beautiful view of the cliffs and lovely beach area to sift for sharks teeth. Nice hike/walk to the beach, maybe a half-mile or so, on a well-maintained trail with bathrooms/showers at beachhead.

What a beautiful hidden gem in Calvert County. We visited shortly after a storm and were able to find quite a few shark teeth and stingray fossils. It was mid October on a Saturday and not very crowded. The park staff was so nice and the bathrooms near the visitors center were pretty clean. We can't wait to come back!
