Wawashkamo Golf Club, Mackinac Island

4.6
#7 of 7 in Golf in Upper Peninsula
Founded in 1898, and designed by Scottish golf professional from Carnoustie and two time U.S. Open winner Alex Smith, Wawashkamo Golf Club is Michigan’s longest continually operated golf course. The links style course is noted as “One of America’s Historic Golf Landmarks” by Golf Digest and sits on Michigan’s Historic Register. Wawashkamo Golf Course is part of the Mackinac State Historic Parks. The development of Wawashkamo Golf Club and the survival of its unique brand of traditional golf runs parallel to the uncommon history of Mackinac Island, a place where much of the flavor of the nineteenth century survives.

We invite you to play for a day or all summer long. Enjoy special savings with our Island Golf Getaway package which includes accommodations, 18-holes of historic golf & cart, breakfast buffet, box lunch, and transportation...all with rates beginning at $299 per couple! • Visited the Island the end of June and played the Historic Wawashkamo while my wife attended a conference. What a pleasure to meet Head Pro Chuck Olson who was extremely nice and helpful with his course knowledge that he shared. I enjoyed the links style course and thought the course condition was very nice also.
  • Chuck (pretty sure that was his name) in the pro shop was great at explaining this unique golf course and helping us out loading and unloading clubs off the carriages. He was extremely friendly and was very accommodating that our carriage took much longer than we anticipated. The course itself remains mostly unchanged since opening in 1898. This makes it a lot different than most courses with small greens, interesting sand traps, and even some history of The Battle of 1812 scattered throughout the course. Again, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming.
